Why does my Ford Taurus' engine performs strangely with the air conditioner on?

About a week ago, my 2003 Ford Taurus started acting bizarre when the air conditioner was operating. Every few minutes while driving, there's a soft click-like sound simultaneously with a sudden and brief drop in acceleration or RPMs. Then, it almost immediately returns to normal until the next time. It's difficult to describe, but I'd like to get a general feel for what it could potentially be prior to taking it to the mechanic.

Thanks for any help! Why does my Ford Taurus' engine performs strangely with the air conditioner on?There are a number of reasons that this could be happening. Everytime your A/C pump kicks on, it puts a load on the motor. The best thing to do is take it to a mechanic and they will duplicate the problem and figure it out from there. It's impossible to have somebody tell you what the problem is without looking at it. Possible IAC motor, engine misfire, dirty throttle body, or just a plain ol' tune-up could fix this problem. Why does my Ford Taurus' engine performs strangely with the air conditioner on?usually all air conditioned cars do the same thing.the reason for the click and rpm drop is the a/c clutch kicking in.Why does my Ford Taurus' engine performs strangely with the air conditioner on?Your A/C sounds like it's cycling off and on way too much, which usually means you are low on freon.
