Don't know what year Taurus or Windstar you are referring to, but I know the Windstars from model years 1995 to 2000, used the AX4S transaxle. Model years 2001 to 2003 Windstars used the AX4N. Tauruses however used BOTH from 1996 to current. It may BOLT in. Whether or not, there are internal differences, I don't know, or at the VERY least, I'm not sure. No they are different vehicles and the transmissions have different valving and gearing for the vehicle they are intended for.
