How do I make engine modifications to a 2005 Ford Mustang GT?

I am writing a novel called "Geared" about drift racing and included a scene at an auto shop with the mechanic changing a car engine for a Ford Mustang GT 2005 model but how does a mechanic actually do this for this specific car. If you don't want to spend that much money then you could just buy some styling mods to install, they won't do anything, but they make the engine look nice.
