What is with the cooling fan on a 1994 Ford Ranger and how to get it off?

I have a 1994 4.0 Ford Ranger and can not get the fan off.I went and got a fan clutch tool from autozone but it is too big.It is 36mm,the bolt is smaller.What can I do to get it off?Do all 94 rangers have a different size fan bolt ?Anyone else have this problem?What is with the cooling fan on a 1994 Ford Ranger and how to get it off?Get a pair of vice grips and a friend, clamp the vice grips around where the fan clutch tool would go, and take off the 4 bolts holding the fan off with a wrench. Same thing happened to me on my 95 F250, and the fans are basically the same, only yours is a little smaller.
