What motors would be compatable in my 1997 Ford Explorer?

The current motor is a 4.0L SOHC V6 and it's got a 4WD transmission. Are there any other year models, or Ford motors that I could use. What motors would be compatable in my 1997 Ford Explorer?the pushrod 5.0 V8 was a option that year, so it should work.. at least I hope so, because that's what I want to put in mine..

You could also use the 3.8, 4.0 and 4.2 pushrod series since they are all the basic same engine..What motors would be compatable in my 1997 Ford Explorer?Yea 5.0's will definately fit, theres some people who have done it.

3.8, 4.0 and 4.2 and pretty much the same and should all fit as well.

But mainly the 5.0 should be the easiest swap, since the 97's CAME with it for the basic v8 option....

Any mustang, crown victoria, bronco, or mercury mountaineer 5.0L v8 should fit in no problem......and grand marquis as well......although BE PREPARED for SMALL differences in the engines such as Accesories and other things connected to the belt systems.....sometimes there maybe be small clearance issues with Radiator Hoses and such......but its ALWAYS fixable, nothing to worry about......sometimes the throttle cables are in slightly different locations, or EGR.....things like that.

But nearly all the v6 and v8 trannys bolt up to all the motors.....if they dont, just swap out the Bell-Housings.

(i know when swapping from a 3.8L v6 engine to a 5.0L v8, if you want to keep your v6 transmission, you must snag the BellHousing off of a T5(v8) tranny, then bolt it up to yer v6 tranny.......OR you could just SWAP transmissions completely, and driveshafts, and Rear-Ends....that works too.)What motors would be compatable in my 1997 Ford Explorer? The Eddie Bauer models were available with a 4.9 L V8. That might fit, but you might have to modify the engine mounts. What motors would be compatable in my 1997 Ford Explorer?
yah the 5.0 v8 is the 302 cubic inch engine. easy swap.
