Jack Roush admitted that he got caught off guard with the COT and that is the main reason they have not run as well this year. At the beginning of the year Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing were extremely busy testing the COT at tracks they don't run Nextel Cup races at. The rules state that there are only so many "official" tests. Goodyear has different teams join them and issues them the tires for the test at the track. Well JGR and HMS simply bought extra haulers and hired extra people go testing at these other tracks. They couldn't get the Goodyears so they had Hoosier or BF Goodrich make them similar enough tires to get by. By doing all this extra work and spending a lot more money than the other teams this put them ahead of the curve on the COT and the results speak for themselves. In the long run the COT will save all the teams money that won't be needed for wind tunnel time but for now the cost is higher with 2 totally different types of cars to try and setup. Roush simply didn't spend the money on research and development needed to keep up with the best teams at the cup level.How come Ford has struggaled the last year?Ford is struggiling because

It has nothing to do with the manufacturer. It is the Drivers. THis is HMS and JGR year. And as you know they drive Chevy. How many good drivers this year drive a Ford? Martin is not there as much and neither is Rusty Wallace. Maybe next year will be Fords year. I really think they fell behind on the new car. They stayed within the guidelines on when and where to test, they did not at that time have a seven post shaker, they started in a hole, they are rectifing this situation, and I will bet you dollars to donuts they will be up there next year with Kenseth leading the pack.
The testing played a big role as chevy...HMS...used unauthorized tracks and hoosier tires to test while ford did not, just to explain that part.
The stock car Ford Taurus and Fushion are pretty much the same exact car template wise.They just fell behind on engineering I think, plus the obvious fact; Roush is the only banner team they have currently. Heres hoping Yates can turn things around around.
