What 1998 ford ranger transmission model do i have?

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger. 2WD, 2.5 Liter 4 Cylinder with an automatic trans. My truck goes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Overdrive when it shifts. I know I have either a 4R44E or a 4R55E, but I don't know which of the two it is exactlyWhat 1998 ford ranger transmission model do i have?If you look at the build tag on the drivers door fame you will find a transmission code. Provided no on has changed it, that is the transmission you have. What 1998 ford ranger transmission model do i have? It's actually listed in the interchange books as an "A4LD-E". They changed to 4R44E in 1999. Ford's parts books might not list it the same as what I use though, they might call it an "early" 4R44E or something. In any case it is NOT the 4R55E.

You should see either "98GTGAA" or "98GT7000GAA" on the ID tag on the side of the transmission.
