How much would it cost to copy a car key for a new Ford?

We have a newish Ford Freestyle, similar to the Explorer, but smaller, but I know the key has some kind of weird chip in the key or something that might make it cost more...how much would that run? Average?How much would it cost to copy a car key for a new Ford?If you have two keys for it.. the cost of the key only which has to be purchased at sometimes a locksmith but usually a Ford/lincoln/mercury dealership only in most locations.



If it's a key by itself, usually about $35 .. if it has a remote built into the key , about $100 for the key

if only one key, most dealers charge the $35 for the key and a $50+ programming fee.. But most charge a flat 1/2 hour to program a new key....



But as someone said, the weird chip is to keep people from stealing the vehicle..as no key, no start without locksmith or Ford dealer level tools



you can cut one to just open the door for $2 but most places won't do it for youy anyway (we have had lots of people turned away from the local wal-mart who wouldn't cut a key at all for the vehicle..even though a regular non chip key can be made to open the door (for example if you lock your keys in your car)How much would it cost to copy a car key for a new Ford?like 3 bucks if u go to those liquors in the street where they sell like beer and stuffHow much would it cost to copy a car key for a new Ford?Probably will cost you about $145.00, the problem with this cars is that the key cost you at least about $70.00 because of the chip and also you need to pay to get the key re programed. that at least is another 70 to 80. I highly recommend you to always have 3 keys. because you can re program one more key with two keys(in case you lost one).Any way, You can call you local Ford dealer and ask for a quote or you can call different Locksmiths that have the equipment to do the job.





you might ask why is so expensive. Well this method makes really difficult for thieves to stole you car, because the car brain will not make you car start unless the car recognises the codes that are sored in the key. And they are about trillion codes.
