Age of empires 2 help needed...?

a friend and i regularly play this game over LAN for the last 5-6 days. the pop caps fixed at 100, and his strat is always to rush to the imperial age and make a horde of paladins...like 20-25 vills and the rest paladins...

how do i effectively counter them??

i mean 1 pikeman against a paladin is a no contest...and to make 2 pikemen for every paladin would be impractical...given the pop cap.

i'm sure if he pop cap's increased..he'd go on making even more paladins and beat the **** out of everyone.Age of empires 2 help needed...?
1) Saracen Mamelukes. Paladins go bye-bye!

2) *HUGE* numbers of pikes; IIRC, a Paladin can take on one or two Pikemen without dying, but Pikemen win out eventually because they're cheaper and faster to make.

3) Walled-in archers and siege equipment - the Paladins can't get at them.

4) Castle/Tower creep. If you're Teutons, TC's form an acceptable substitute. Basically advance your defensive line in a leapfrog manner such that each line protects the one in front of it.

Starting in the Castle Age and beyond, build up some Camels and upgrades, Onagers and upgrades, Scorpions and upgrade. If all he's using are paladins, you should be able to take him down easily. A strong army has a mixture of units that complements each other.



Have some pikemen, spearmen in the front line to absorb and hold them back, while the Onagers and Scorpions fires from the backline. (Siege) Onagers and (Heavy) Scorpions are great against group of enemies. Paladins are only effective when it's in a group. So if you can take out groups of paladins, you'll win.
try getting camels . they are good vs mounted and have more hp and attack
