What do I need to look for in a laptop?

I have never owned one, and don't want to have to buy one for the next 3 to 4 years to keep it updated with hardware stuff, like ram and memory (that isn't the same thing is it?). I am not very literate when it comes to computers.

So I know I want to click on a link and it goesquickly to the page. I don't want to have to wait for the page to load. I like watching the tv episodes that I miss on CBS, for example. So I will need something to veiw movies, and tv shows with. I take a lot a pic's so I need room for that, because I make copies, but I like to look at them also, so they stay on the computer. I like playing simple games like Big Fish or pop cap which are not very big. Also I write al ot and I listen to music.

I am no millionaire so I can't spend a lot of money on it, but like I said I need something that wont be ancient in three to four years.

What do you suggest I go with?

Who is the best notebook manufacturer?

Please only serious answers please. What do I need to look for in a laptop?
When choosing a computer, laptop or desktop, it is not necessarily the brand that you look for but these points, in order of importance:

?

1. Processor type and speed. For your purposes a Duo Core would do just as well as a Quad Core. You have to remember though that many applications are now being written to take advantage of multi-core processors. The speed of the processor is obviously significant and you would go with the highest one that you can afford. Most desktops(non-multicore, P4 types) today run at around 3 Ghz or slightly above that but a duo or a quad processor running at 2.2 Ghz would beat that. So in a laptop I would be happy if it runs at 2.2 or higher if it? has a Duo or a Quad core processor. Avoid the laptops that do not mention the speed of the processor or those that are well below 2 Ghz.

2. RAM (Memory) Although memory is something that is relatively easy to upgrade, it is? occasionally more difficult in a laptop so it’s better to buy a laptop that already comes equipped with 2 GB ?RAM rather than buy a 512 MB RAM ?( ? GB) system and then try and upgrade that. The cheaper laptops would have slow or little RAM or both. If you can check the RAM speed, the higher the speed the better of course.

3 Screensize: Anything less? than 14” will be hard on the eyes. A WIDESCREEN is also preferable.

4 Battery Power:? A rule of thumb is to divide the advertised time on battery by 2 for practical purposes. A notebook that can really give you 2 hours of functionality on battery without shutting down is great in my opinion. Centrino processors normally ?conserve batteries much better than others. If you are not going to be mobile much, then battery might not be too much of a consideration. My own laptop is always plugged in.

5 Hard Drive Size: You will probably want 200 GB. At least. ?More if you are going to store videos.

6 Price: Obviously a consideration but don’t make it #1 because you’ll only end up frustrated if you end up buying a real slow notebook.

1.as u dont need much of computing speed u can use a simple processor laptop(it comes cheap)..dual core will do instead of core 2 duo or core 2 quad or higher versions

2.keeping ur pics wont require much hard disk space(160-250 gb more than enuf for ur purpose).

3.Ram upto 2-3 gb will be enuf..What do I need to look for in a laptop?
150 to 250 gb of hardrive 3gb ram and more memory dual core proccesor

at2,00 ghz and windows vista home premium i hope that you find this information helpful

Microprocessor , RAM, Hard Desk,

I love Toshiba and Dell product,

What do I need to look for in a laptop?
Processor, ram and if you play games graphics card.
Get an ASUS G71 quad you won't have to get another or upgrade for a long time.
You can watch tv shows online, so you only need a good internet service to do that. So the better internet you have the better the play with be for the vidos.

In order to watch movies on your computer, you need a laptop with a DVD player, most of them do. And you can watch movies using win dvd or windows media player, most windows computer come with both installed.

Making copies of the videos, unless you pay for them is illegal and puts you at risk of infection. So I suggest you use itunes or stick to viewing them online for free.

So here is what you should go with.

Brands: HP, Toshibia or Sony

RAM (system memory): You'll want at least 1GB or more, you'd probably be just fine with 1GB or 2GB

Hard drive: You'd probably want 160GB-250GB hard drive

Processor: Anything that is intell and you'll be just fine

Graphic card; Since you don;t plan on being a major gamer, that really wont be a problem. With the laptop you get, with the specs above, will be just fine for basic everyday games

If you need more help let me know.
