For there kids going bad when they start entering their teen years ? They blame Video games, Music, Movies, etc. Are they bad influences ? YES THEY ARE. Is it the parent's job to teach there child right from wrong either way ? YES IT IS. I grew up listening to the gangster genre of Hip Hop but that didnt make me go and "smack a b*tch up" or ''pop a cap in a pastor's azz". I used to play mortal kombat , but i didnt go out trying to slice someone to pieces if i got into a fight with them. I always watched scarface, goodfellas, and casino but i didnt sell drugs or get into any illegal business. You know why ? Because my authority figure always was there to teach me that its just entertainment and they taught me right from wrong and how the real world actually is. They werent that lazy parent who lets the media and there child's peers raise there kid. And yes , i know everyone doesnt have an authority figure, but the ones who are authority figures should stop putting the blame on the mediaWhy do Parents blame the Media?
I agree. I watch violent movies sometimes, and I love Red Faction, Doom, Duke Nukem, Heretic, Quake, Outlaws, Hexon, GTA, etc. I play all the violent video games you could imagine with my cousins, and loved them. I even played in mock battles with them, using plastic guns, swords, and other various weapons, and yet I'm an extremely peaceful person.
I've watched the "Ocean" movies, and yet I've never felt a need to rob anyone. I watch whatever movies I like, but they haven't changed who I am. Not only that, but I've spent time with people at school who would most definitely be considered a "bad influence," without any negative effect.
Why is this? Because I have excellent parents who actually took the time to raise me. The media did not raise me, my parents did, and I know the difference between the media and real life. Bad influences are only problematic if the parents and kids never talk about these things.
Just out of curiosity, why do you refer to your guardian as your "authority figure"?
parents just use the media as a scapegoat for their bad parenting
im 14. i play True Crime w/ my dad and i watch pretty much any movie i want. i listen to music that some adults might call "scary". im an A student and im not violent in any way. my parents raised me right...
ps.- goodfellas is a great movieWhy do Parents blame the Media?
Agreed.
It is much easier to blame someone else then to take a look at yourself and admit your mistakes. The parents who do this are raising children who will do this. It is sad and unfortunate.
Probably to get them off the hook for displaying poor parenting skills.
Video games and music are different from reality - even the dumbest people know that. Why do Parents blame the Media?
I SOOOO AGREE, and I am 14. I really agree with you. I mean, some things can be like the skinny girls have an affect on girls so they become anorexic or something, not always thecase though.
because they do not want to blame THEMSELVES. it is much easier to "pass the buck" to someone else.
so they cant blame themselves
The parents are just too blind or ashamed to admit defeat in the eyes of their childeren. They can't stand to admit that they did a piss-poor job of raising their kids.
The media is the easiest thing to pin the blame on these days, what with people going nuts over the I-phone or the Iraq Conflict or Music videos with crude language and obscene violence. Parents just dont take the time to look at themselves, to put Themselves in check everynow and then. And the kids don't care because they have freedom to look at these bad things.
The difference is most childeren these days can tell the difference between pixels and reality, and the parents need something to quarrel about.
That is not true. Not all parents blame the media because they have done a horrible job raising them. Truth is, some children are easily influenced and so they mock what they admire or what they see most often. Some children do come from broken homes and use negative actions as an escape. However, there are children who do a number of things for attention.
It is important to realize that every situation is unique when involving humans. No two people are alike even when raised in the same household. Why one child who lives in California and acts out compared to another who lives in Virginia and is disrespectful may or may not be the same depending on various factors. Not necessarily the media.
